postheadericon How many people are hurt yearly after meeting online preditors in person?

I teach a technology class for elementary school kids and kids these days as young at 4th grade are signing up for myspace not expecting to run into trouble. I’m teaching a lesson on internet safety and would like to know some statistics to throw at them. The 8th graders think, this could never happen to me! I need help, any info would be great!
Zoes Mommy- How is your answer realted to the question what-so-ever? Either you are married to an online preditor or it simply doesn’t. Thanks anyway

postheadericon Is there an internet safety letter for parents if kids with myspace?

i’m a 6th grade teacher and about 85% of my kids have a myspace page. i would really like to find a flyer or newsletter with facts and tips to internet safety, which specifically focuses on myspace. i will accept any news stories that you may find, as i could probably make up a flyer of my own. just wondering if there is one out there already.

thanks
*for parents OF kids with myspace. sorry, typing too fast for my own good.
let me add some more…i teach in an inner city and a lot of parents aren’t necessarily involved with all aspects of their children’s lives. at lot of my kids have admitted to lying about their age and brag about how many friends they have, which makes me believe they will allow anyone to be their friend. i’m just looking for something to go over with parents about their children’s safety. maybe some statistics to scare them to keep an eye out. or tips so parents can allow their kids to have a myspace page, but make sure they regulate.

thanks.

postheadericon What are some ideas for a high school seat belt safety day? ?

The only ideas I can find online are songs and kiddie games for little kids. I’m looking for ideas that are a little more appropriate for high school students.
Statistics and pictures do not mean anything to my school mates, I know because for the past three years that’s what we’ve done & no impact.

We also pass out caution tape to other students and tell them to wear the caution tape like a seat belt for the whole day. Other students get involved, but some make a joke of it, like taking five cation tape strips and making a cape out of them.

It’s just frusterating trying to help my school with something that is not only dangerous not to wear a seat belt, but it’s also illegal no to wear a seat belt.
