Co-Sleeping with a newborn (almost 6 weeks old). Safety?
I’m a mom of 3. Did not sleep with our first 2, and have recently started with our 3rd (and last). I know not to have any pillows or blankets around the baby. But I am still freaking out about the SIDS factor. To the point of not being able to sleep more than an hour or 2 a night!
Does anyone know of any other safety measure to take?
We have a king size memory foam top matress, cotton sheets, and are using the "baby wedge" to make sure she doesn’t move to a bad position. It still freaks me out big time though. With the memory foam matress, I’m scared everything will "sink", and she’ll smother! It’s nearly impossible to go to sleep while trying to stay awake to make sure she stays still, and listening for her breathing! lol
I have seen online a "baby bed" type thing, that sits on your bed, and is supposed to keep them safe. Has anyone used one of them, or know anything about them. I’m exclusively breastfeeding (finally), so she’s waking every 2-3 hours anyways, and it’s most convenient to have her in bed. (hubby works a crazy schedule days/nights, and we have 2 other kids to keep asleep!)
Anyone have any advice, or product ideas that make it less scary?
Thanks for the answers guys! I suppose I need to start checking further into baby bed options. We were putting her in the bassinet next to the bed, but she’s out growing that already, so now I’m kinda lost lol. I’ll check more into the baby beds though, that might be the answer.
Do you think those vinyl stickers on cars pose a safety risk for children?
I was following a blue minivan the other day that had one of those vinyl stickers on the rear window that had the name of a local kids’ soccer organization, a soccer ball, and the name "MADDIE #6" under it.
Basically, this parent was advertising that they have a school-aged daughter who plays on the soccer team and wears number 6, and gave out her name. This is the exact kind of information that parents tell their kids not to share with strangers on the internet, but here they are telling the whole local area.
This same organization posts its game information online. Anyone can find out where they play. Someone could approach little #6 and say, "Hi Maddie! Don’t you remember me? I’m a friend of your mom’s. I drive a blue minivan just like hers. She said you might want to meet my dog, she’s in the car, come on."
If I had kids their names would never go on my car, nor would any other identifiers like sports teams or jersey numbers. Is this too much risk?
Should I make this video?
Alright, you may or may not know that I am a huge Nick Jonas/Jonas Brothers fan. For Nick’s birthday,I was going to make one of those Youtube slideshows to one of the songs with birthday message titles. Well, for some reason, the music won’t work on Windows Movie Maker, so I asked my mom to research a solution. I thought about it,and decided I could film myself webcam-style reading a poem or something for him. Mom liked the idea, but now I am having second thoughts. I am very internet safety paranoid. Online chats with camp friends have been very awkward. I’m so reserved.I also want to practice what I preach when I do my Girl Scout project on teaching other kids net safety.Am I over-freaked over a simple video or are there other options to just make a slideshow?Help!
Protecting Kids Online business?
I have been thinking about this alot, and I think it could be good for a business, but more importantly for the safety of kids.
What sparked the idea, my cousin is 13 years old and she was on a website/chatroom, and got a number from a man(21 years old), and was having conversations every night with this guy, and exchanging emails.
Me being at the right place at the right time, got on her computer, and saw all the emails with this guy, Stuff that I did not want to see, and things a 13 year old girl should not know about.
I told her mom, and she had a talk with her, and I did some research and installed a parental control program, that monitors everything, and showed my aunt how to use it. No more problems after that, and my cousin was happy that I did that.
Who knows what would’ve happened if she would’ve kept talking to this guy.
Do you think as a parent, you would be interested in protecting your kid online and have someone come out to your house and setup the softwa?
I’m not going to create a new software. It’s just some parents are clueless as to how to do things. Many parents do not know anything about that kind of software. Most kids know more than parents do, when it comes to the internet.
So my job would be to, advertise what I can do.
Then load the software, and tutor them on how to use it.

By the way, I don’t think this is spying on your kids, I believe it’s called parenting. It’s the same as looking to see if the Movie is R- rated. I’m only 19 years old and, I don’t have any kids, but after seeing what happened. There is a dark side to the internet that should be protected.
imsidiro, Actually this going to be a extra to the business I already have. I install networks, PC-repair.
But, I’m not going to create a new software. It’s just some parents are clueless as to how to do things. Many parents do not know anything about that kind of software. Most kids know more than parents do, when it comes to the internet.
