postheadericon Where can I get help?I need a good car to drive and a babysitter for my kid.?

I got my job in late March this year. My grandmother has been helping by watching my four year old daughter and giving me rides to and from work and the store. But recently doctors noticed a lump in one of her lungs and are now talking about sending her to get radiation over 2 hours away.

I am barely "getting by" with what I am currently earning. I have to turn to my family for basic things such as shoes for my daughter. My ex isn’t helpful at all. I am looking into getting child support, but I know I wouldn’t get much from him and there are safety concerns if he gets more rights to our daughter.

I do not see any better job openings in my area and I have talked to my boss. She won’t be able to help me as much as I need. I was hoping that as a single mother and an online college student I may qualify for some kind of assistance. Does anyone know where I should look? I have already contacted Human Services. They weren’t helpful. I live in North East Texas.

postheadericon dmv problem: department of safety vehicles?

i had failed a behind the wheel test cause i stopped at a stop sign and i was about to continue and a kid ran across the street so i stopped. but the instructer marked me down as havin to intervene and he was being an asshole about it. and so at the end of the test i out of anger said that i should have ran over that kid. and he said he was gonna report me to the department of safety vehicles? i think. my question is that if there really is such a department. and if it has anythign to do why i keep receiving this message when im tryin to make another appointment online

"Sorry

You are ineligible to make a behind-the-wheel driving test appointment online. For additional information, please call 1-800-777-0133."

i asked around and some ppl say that he’s just tryin to scare me. what do you guys think?

postheadericon Is this not blatant discrimination against non-religious people?

Excerpted from Time online article about safety of vaccines (http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20080522/hl_time/howsafearevaccines)
"Despite the rules requiring students to be vaccinated, doctors can issue waivers to kids whose compromised immune system might make vaccines risky. Additionally, all but two states allow waivers for children whose parents object to vaccines on religious grounds; 20 allow parents to opt out on philosophical grounds."

So, that means that in 48 of 50 states I can object to vaccines on religious grounds, but in only 20 of 50 states can I object on philosophical grounds.

postheadericon If you have a handgun for gun range, and hobby, do you still keep bullets at home for safety?

30 yr old male, live in a NON liberal state – NJ, and will only be transporting my handgun in trunk, with bullets far far away. Would it be in my best interest to have some ammo at home for self defense? I really don’t need it and I’m in a good neighborhood, and it’s just me in the apartment so i dont have to worry about kids or family members getting to the weapon…would you keep some ammo at home for self defense? or leave it strictly as a hobby/range weapon and not have live rounds at home at all ? Also, since i’m in NJ, only 10 round clips are avail for the glock17, i went ahead and purchased a 17 round mag online, i wonder if i can get in a lot of trouble, or hefty fine if I get caught with a 17 rd mag while leaving the house. I guess the 17 rd mag would be left at home with a full clip (IF i were to keep any live rounds at home at all). Give me ideas and suggestions and thoughts, remember, it will be used for range/hobby purposes only, should i have some live rounds at home, or should i make my home 100% injury proof and leave the bullets at the range, or leave a few home, what do you guys think? btw, this is prob a factor, but there hasnt been a break-in, near my area in about 20 years.
To all of you saying that I’m not telling the truth regarding the 17 rd mag…I must admit my order did go through, and my card was charged, but I did not receive an email yet stating that the magazine could not be delivered. The current status is pending when i check online order status. Also, i am 15 min from PA. so i can walk into any gunshop there also and buy a 17 rounder and walk out without problem too…I figured i’d do so online ,but if they give me a problem, i can just go to PA and do the same as the other poster mentioned

postheadericon How many people are hurt yearly after meeting online preditors in person?

I teach a technology class for elementary school kids and kids these days as young at 4th grade are signing up for myspace not expecting to run into trouble. I’m teaching a lesson on internet safety and would like to know some statistics to throw at them. The 8th graders think, this could never happen to me! I need help, any info would be great!
Zoes Mommy- How is your answer realted to the question what-so-ever? Either you are married to an online preditor or it simply doesn’t. Thanks anyway

postheadericon Co-Sleeping with a newborn (almost 6 weeks old). Safety?

I’m a mom of 3. Did not sleep with our first 2, and have recently started with our 3rd (and last). I know not to have any pillows or blankets around the baby. But I am still freaking out about the SIDS factor. To the point of not being able to sleep more than an hour or 2 a night!

Does anyone know of any other safety measure to take?

We have a king size memory foam top matress, cotton sheets, and are using the "baby wedge" to make sure she doesn’t move to a bad position. It still freaks me out big time though. With the memory foam matress, I’m scared everything will "sink", and she’ll smother! It’s nearly impossible to go to sleep while trying to stay awake to make sure she stays still, and listening for her breathing! lol

I have seen online a "baby bed" type thing, that sits on your bed, and is supposed to keep them safe. Has anyone used one of them, or know anything about them. I’m exclusively breastfeeding (finally), so she’s waking every 2-3 hours anyways, and it’s most convenient to have her in bed. (hubby works a crazy schedule days/nights, and we have 2 other kids to keep asleep!)

Anyone have any advice, or product ideas that make it less scary?
Thanks for the answers guys! I suppose I need to start checking further into baby bed options. We were putting her in the bassinet next to the bed, but she’s out growing that already, so now I’m kinda lost lol. I’ll check more into the baby beds though, that might be the answer.

postheadericon I have a custody issue, can you help with my brother, his girlfriend and their kids?

Ok here is the situation, my brother met a girl online, she moved from a completely different state to be with him. We didn’t know anything about her, where she came from, who her family is… nothing. They set up house together and about 8 months later we find out she is 7 months pregnant. She claimed she "had no idea that she was pregnant". We all knew that was BS, but chose for my brother’s sake to keep the peace. Not long after the birth of their first child, they got pregnant with their 2nd. Mind you we still know nothing about her or her family, and think that they don’t even know she has kids. So flash forward a year later the kids are now 1 and 3. She decides that she hates my brother and wants to move herself and the kids to the mid west (we are in the north east) to live with a "family" she met online! Not in person…online!! I think it is more likely that she is going to shack up with a new man, or has gotten her self mixed up with some weird fundamentalist group. At any rate she has my brother convinced that this is a good idea and after a few months he is going to move out there and they will live happily ever after. Please note my sarcasm as I am really laying it on thick. If you have not already figured it out, my brother, who is very book smart, is outrageously naive. I did a backround check on her and found out that she has married like 5 times, yet there is no mention of any divorces. My brother won’t hear any of it because he has decided that he is going to “trust the woman he loves”. I don’t care if she leaves, hell I don’t even care if he leaves, I am worried about the babies. My husband and I have already offered to take the kids and give them a stable home, to no avail. I am very concerned about the safety of these children. It is my understanding that if he allows her to leave the state without any kind of legal paper work drawn up, he will have a very hard time regaining custody, and she does not have to give him the opportunity to see them, nor does she have to tell him where she takes them next. And the rest of us can pretty much forget about ever being a part of these two beautiful childrens lives forever. What can I do???!!??

PS: LC if you are reading this…I am on to you babe

postheadericon Would you consider this being too strict and overprotective?

I have a 13 year old son and a 9 year old daughter. My son made a Facebook account 2 months ago. As a rule, I will know ALL the passwords to my kids’ accounts online (myspace, facebook, hotmail etc) until they turn 18 years old. Its not that I won’t trust them, but it is about other people online I don’t trust. My daughter does not have any accounts online, but when she does she knows that I will have the passwords. The computer is also in the living room where it will be always monitored where I can see everything that goes on. I allow my 13 y.o 30 minutes a day on weekdays and 1 hour a day on weekends on the computer.

Would you consider this too strict and overprotective? I don’t really think so, I believe there should not be any "privacy" over the internet until they are no longer minors. This is only to ensure their safety.

And also, for any other parents; What are you experienced for passwords online, what are your rules and regulations regarding this?

postheadericon Spiritually Speaking, what child under age 10 needs to come online?

What does a child have to do online under age 10, 3rd grade or under, that they need to do?
Are they on message boards?
Are they in chat rooms?
Are they getting into things they shouldn’t?

Do you allow your child to succomb to "Satan" by entering the Internet?

Apparently some people think it’s okay for kids to be on the Internet, but do you honestly think the Parent Safety features are blocking unwanted content? I have kids in high school who get around blocked sites by going to an alternate site and re-typing in the address to the blocked sites to get around it. Do you think your own child is not doing that as well? Are you able to keep up with them?

Or will Jesus save them?

postheadericon I HAVE NEVER been this unhappy with my son before. help before he gets us killed.?

So… I found out my son has obtained fake i.d. from an online source. The kid scanned his Drivers license, along with a current picture of himself and emailed to someone!!!!
So…my son’s DL#, date of birth, address, etc. are out on the internet! He sent it to a place that I googled and came up with many sites, all in Russian/Polish (I think).

He’s smart kid and conversations have been had about internet safety! Why do they think bad things won’t happen to them????!!!!!!

I don’t even know where to begin to try and protect his i.d. I tried to contact the 3 credit agencies, but they won’t deal with under 18. So….I’m coming to YA for any and all suggestions.

IMy address and phone number are all over the internet and anyone anywhere could have access to them. I’m VERY scared and upset. PLEASE help ASAP.
